Holguín was the leader of a Medellín gang in the mid-1980s, a time when the city's underworld was growing rapidly in both scale and complexity. But today, 40 years after he first bought a gun and created an armed group to defend himself from neighbourhood criminals, Holguín coordinates the Sinergia movement, the civilian spokespeople for one of the criminal gangs in the Medellín metropolitan area that is participating in President Gustavo Petro's flagship policy of “Total Peace.”
