It happened as the nation was still reeling from a teenager's alleged terrorist attack on a priest in Sydney mere weeks ago. Another 16-year-old boy exposed to online extremism had resorted to knife violence.

The stabbing in Perth's southern suburb of Willetton on Saturday had all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack, according to WA Police, but Commissioner Col Blanch stopped short of giving it that label.
