Speaker Series: Surfacing and Addressing Structural (Roots of) Violence
More news about the topic
Structural violence is all around us and, yet, it seemingly blends into the background and tends to go unnoticed. When it comes to examining drivers of violence and inequity, a great deal of focus is placed on individual-level factors, with attention also being given to risk and protective factors. However, there is limited consideration and examination of the broader, underlying context and its social, economic and political structures and arrangements.
This talk will discuss the importance of adopting a structural lens and look at ways of shifting upstream through structural changes and practices across various levels, including community and organizational levels. As well, the discussion will touch upon the considerations and approaches related to shifting decision-making processes and working with decision-makers in order to more meaningfully address social inequities.
The talk takes place on Wednesday, June 4
