Physical and sexual violence at home, at school and in the community affects around two thirds of all children in Africa and is an economic issue as well as a moral one.

Impacts that endure into adulthood include brain impairments, lower cognitive ability, increased mental and physical illness, lower educational attainment and a less productive working life. One long-term consequence is lower national economic growth. Interventions that prevent violence are therefore important economic investments.
