Global Crises, Local Impacts: Strengthening Community Safety Through Collaboration Between Local Police, Social Workers, and Health Care Professionals
More news about the topic
Every month, the Strong Cities Network invites city officials, researchers and other experts to explore how mayors and local governments can most effectively manage inter-communal tensions resulting from global crises, such as migration, climate-elated challenges, conflicts and rising levels of on/offline hate that threaten to increase social polarisation.
Effective city-led prevention and response require a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to ensure community safety and wellbeing. Collaboration between police, social workers, and health care professionals is a critical component of this approach. Among other things, this collaboration helps cities advance their violence prevention efforts as these practitioners can identify and address – through comprehensive support -- early signs of mental health and other crises that may escalate into violence if left unaddressed.
This 90-minute webinar will feature local practitioners working as part of these multi-disciplinary teams. They will share lessons learned, good practices and challenges from their work in navigating complex challenges such as mental and behavioral health crises, homelessness, and interpersonal conflict through a lens of prevention. Speakers will describe how collaboration between police, social workers, and health professionals can improve public safety outcomes and maintain social cohesion while fostering trust, compassion and efficiency in prevention and response.
