Child protection concepts in educational institutions and associations

As early as 1992, the needs and interests of children were legally anchored in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Nevertheless, the abuse scandal in a German City (Lügde) or also in the (Catholic) Church or in sports makes it clear once again that violence against children is omnipresent and does not only take place in the domestic environment. Accordingly, an intensive confrontation with it in educational institutions and clubs/associations is unavoidable. Institutional child protection concepts start exactly here and focus on the preventive idea – thus the protection against all forms of violence against children and young people.
The aim of this lecture is to show the importance and preventive opportunities of a child protection concept. In addition, it will give an impression of how the creation of a child protection concept can succeed and what steps would be necessary for this.
