The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has taken a terrible toll in lives, illness, and economic devastation and it is having diverse effects on violence and crime. Therefore, the Daily Prevention News publishes weekly a Corona Crime Issue dedicated to collect related relevant news and information.

1. Number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths worldwide as of December 16, 2020, by country
   As of December 16, 2020, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had spread to six continents, and over 1.6 million people had died after contracting the respiratory virus. Source: Statista
2. Incidence of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom as of December 14, 2020, by country
   As of December 14, 2020, Belgium had the highest rate of coronavirus deaths among its population in the European Economic Area at 156.7 deaths per 100,000 population. Italy has recorded 106.89 deaths from coronavirus per 100,000. Furthermore, Italy has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in Europe, at 64,520. Source: Statista
3. COVID-19 as the Leading Cause of Death in the United States
   The daily US mortality rate for COVID-19 deaths is equivalent to the September 11, 2001, attacks, which claimed 2988 lives, occurring every 1.5 days, or 15 Airbus 320 jetliners, each carrying 150 passengers, crashing every day. Source: JAMA
4. Deaths From COVID-19
   This fall, a million new cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, which previously had increased monthly, began appearing weekly; as of December 13, cumulative infections totaled more than 16 million in the United States.
