Corruption Perceptions Index 2018

More news about the topic

Transparency International has released the Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 and the results are troubling.

The index ranks 180 countries using a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. This year, more than two-thirds of countries score below 50, with a global average score of just 43.

This year’s index shows that the majority of countries are making little or no progress in ending corruption. Even worse, it reveals that the continued failure of most countries to significantly control corruption is contributing to a crisis in democracy around the world. With many democratic institutions and norms currently under threat – often by leaders with authoritarian or populist tendencies – the Index analyses the relationship between corruption and global democracy trends.
