This report summarises the kinds of information that can be extracted from social media that is relevant to assessing social cohesion. polarisation and threats of extremist, as well as tools for detection and analysis.

Between September 2014 and December 2017, the European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) led, with funding from the European Commission, the LIAISE “Local institutions against violent extremism” project for exchanging and strengthening the capacities of European local authorities for the implementation of prevention projects against violent radicalisation. The paper was written in the framework of the LIAISE 2 project in order to synthesise existing knowledge and make it operational for local authorities.
