Urban Security in Europe: Efus presents 2 European Projects

Pilar De La Torre
European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS)

The European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) is the only European network of local and regional authorities dedicated to urban security. It includes nearly 250 local and regional authorities from 16 countries which cooperate to promote a balanced vision of urban security, combining prevention, sanctions and social cohesion.

In this session, Efus will showcase two recent European cooperation projects which highlight the wide range of topics relevant to urban security practitioners today:

The project Just and Safer Cities for All, led by Efus between 2015 and 2017, has reviewed strategies and developed recommendations on how to counter and prevent discriminatory violence and hate crime at the local level. It has produced practical guidance and fostered a network of cities and regions active to counter forms of violence and crime that are linked to discrimination.

The project Medi@4Sec, led by University of Warwick and supported by Efus as a partner (2016-2018) aims to understand the opportunities, challenges and ethical considerations of social media use for public security purposes. It works towards better matches between technical solutions and the needs of security practitioners at the local and regional levels.

Efus will present results and tools these two projects have made available to professionals in the field of crime prevention.
