The violence motivated by hatred for people with disability

Abstract:
The occurrence of violence is ubiquitous - in everyday life, in interpersonal relations, in employer-employee relationships, in literature and culture and in many other areas. This problem touches people regardless of age, sex and social status. Different forms and degrees of the violence are observed in many social circles including people with disabilities. People with disabilities constitute a wide and varied social group. This is a category of people heavily exposed to violence and discrimination.
The aim of the study was the analyze of the crimes motivated by hatred for people with disabilities. Offenses motivated by prejudice are characterized by the fact that they violate not only the rights and freedoms of the victims, but also endangers the rights and freedoms of all persons who are representatives of a particular minority and the standard of protection. Particular attention has been paid to the issue of violence against persons with disabilities, which is unique in cases where motives are contempt, hatred or prejudice against the victim.
The legislator's responsibility is to introduce regulations that will protect the fundamental rights of people with disabilities. The obligation to establish effective legislation and policies to ensure that cases of mistreatment, violence and mistreatment against people with disabilities are identified, investigated and prosecuted.

Vita:
Dorota Habrat holds a Ph.D. in criminal law.
In 2003 she graduated from the University of Rzeszow majoring
in Faculty of Law. In June 2007 she defended the doctoral
thesis at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University on Faculty
of Law and Administration in Warsaw. In 2007 she started
lecturing in the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal
Procedure in University of Rzeszow. She currently lectures
criminal law and selected issues and specific parts of the
criminal law and the doctrine of punishment. Her research
interests focus on the criminal corporate liability and criminal
law protection of individuals with disabilities.
