Abstract:
The radicalization of the youth in Pakistan started during 1970s with the General Zia-ul-Haq Islamization when the then regime Islamized the education system, justice and governance institutions. The prevailing education system is producing confused personalities split into three conflicting compartments; glorifying the past glory of Islam, unemployment, and insecurity resulting into political instability and the breakdown of governance and rule of law. The continued hijacking of the system by non-representative forces derailed the democratic development in the country. With the Islamization of the country and under the slogan of Afghan Jihad (holy war) religious seminaries mushroomed in Pakistan. A media report shows approximately 35000 madrassas (religious seminaries) are present in the country which raised from 300 during the inception days of Pakistan. Some 3.5 million students study in these madrassas. The set of education produces a totally complete mind set from other education systems. Their students are opposed to the modern education, western democracy, women’s education and modern development tools. With the under development the country has been witnessing, the State institutions swamped by incompetency, corruption and nepotism which has resulted into low confidence and trust of youth on the national institutions.
