Georeferencing Juvenile Offenders. Impact where the juvies live

Abstract:
The massive use of georeferencing "hotspots" maps, highlights where the offenders commit crimes, but crimes always move around the territory. Only referencing where offenders actually live allows to address contextual variables and inspires focal and local actions on families and communities.
Juveniles offenders on parole provides on-time data for effective prevention, and real-life impact (opposite to actions within the walls, in prisons).
When stigmatization of some areas is avoided properly, this kind of analysis permits a vivid visualization of crime territorial origins, which is a deep concern in Latin-America.
The facts and work experience in our juvenile parole programmes in Puente Alto, Santiago, summarize 5 years of analysis in a district counting with the highest rates of violent crime in Chile.
