World Migration Report 2018

More news about the topic

The International Organisation of Migration (IOM) has published the World Migration Report 2018, which is the ninth in the series. Since 2000, IOM has been producing world migration reports to contribute to increased understanding of migration throughout the world. This new edition presents key data and information on migration as well as thematic chapters on highly topical migration issues.

One chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the existing evidence on the relationships between migration, violent extremism and social exclusion. It provides a brief overview of definitions and data, emphasizing the need for analytical clarity, pointing to a shortage of reliable data, and highlighting the challenge of distinguishing causation from correlation. A simple typology of the intersections between migration and violent extremism is developed, following the logic of the “migration cycle” from departure to settlement and at times return.
