Verein Programm Klasse2000 e.V.

Klasse2000 is the most widely spread program of health promotion and the prevention of violence and substance abuse aimed at elementary school children from the age of 5 to the age of 10. In 2008 more than 290,000 children from 12,350 classes participated.
Klasse2000 consists of detailed teachers’ manuals and attractive material for children. It starts in 1st grade and is implemented for four years of elementary school time.
Implementation is based on a co-operation between teachers and external experts, the “Klasse2000 health experts”. The health experts contribute two or three interactive lessons per year and assist the teachers in the coverage of the main part of the program.
Parents are informed by regular letters, an annual magazine and thematic parent-teacher-conferences. The program combines life skill training with teaching knowledge about health, healthy eating and body functions as well as emphasising the importance of physical activity. It helps children to develop greater self-esteem and self-confidence: the most promising way of substance abuse prevention.
Klasse2000 was developed in 1991 and has been continuously evaluated and updated. Every year pupils, parents, teachers or health providers answer questionnaires about their satisfaction with the program and program implementation. These studies confirm a high compliance. Results of longitudinal studies suggest positive effects of participating Klasse2000 on individual, class and school level.
