Conference: Community Sanctions and Measures in Eurasia

The Confederation of European Probation (CEP) will organise the conference “The implementation of community sanctions and measures in Eurasia - Building on the best" in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. The conference will be about the development and implementation of alternatives to detention in the Eurasian region.

Various countries will contribute to the conference programme, like Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and many more. A representative from the Council of Europe will also give a presentation. Two workshop sessions are included in the programme. Participants can choose from four different workshops:

  • Workshop A: The role of probation in the pre-trial stage: trends and possibilities (workshop following the plenary) by Professor Loraine Gelsthorpe (UK) and Mr Imants Jurevicius (Latvia)
  • Workshop B: Electronic Monitoring (workshop following the plenary) by Mr Pedro Ferreira Marum (Belgium) and speaker from Moldova
  • Workshop C: Community Service (workshop following the plenary) by Ms Iuliana Carbunaru (Romania) and speaker from Ukraine
  • Workshop D: Probation Management (staff, training, resilience) by Mr Steve Pitts (UK) and Mr Leo Tigges (NL) on “Capacity Building” and Ms Jana Spero (Croatia)

The event will be held in Hotels & Preference Hualing in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 16-17 May 2019.
